[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] OEM

I've got a really dumb question: what does OEM mean? From the context I've
seen it used, I presume it refers to hardware bought in mass quantities by
other manufacturers/distributors. Is that right?

OEM = "Original Equipment Manufacturer," an oddly inappropriate name.
The companies to which it refers are those that buy equipment manufactured
by others, package it together and sell it under their own names.

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. I think OEM can apply to software
(not just hardware) in nowaday's usage.
