[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Boot problem with RLL-controller

rohr@uklirb.informatik.uni-kl.de (Michael Rohr Dfki) (08/15/90)

Hi,

because I was running low of disk storage place I recently
installed a Western Digital RLL-controller (1:1 interleave). But
since then my computer does not boot at 12 mhz. It only boots
when it is running at 6 mhz. After booting I'm able to switch
over to 12 mhz and everything works fine then.

Usually the computer passes the memory test, tries to access
drive a, checks drive b. While the lamp of drive b still flashes
the computer tries to access c. The hard drive's lamp flashes
shortly and then everything stops. Only the drive lamp of b is
still burning. The only thing I can do then is to reboot via
hardware reset. I'm also able to get into the setup routines.

The computer I'm using is a MAGIX Competition (12 mhz NEAT). It
has 2 mb ram, INTEL coprocessor, ATI WONDER VGA (256 kb and bus
mouse, BIOS V3M-1.06), 3.5 1.4 mb and 360 kb 5.25 disk drive,
MITSUBISHI MR535 hard drive. Shadow ram as well as EMS is
enabled. BIOS is made by DTK (NEAT BIOS ver. 3.25 03/17/89).

Any ideas and thanks in advance?

Jens

p.s. you may wonder why the signature and the address in the
header don't correspond. Right now I'm using a friend's account
and I can be reached under his address till the 10th of
september. After that I can be reached under my own address
which is: boelte@dmrhrz11.bitnet.
