[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] FastData 386sx

sjo@cci632.UUCP (Steve Owens) (08/17/90)

It's put out by the FastMicro Corporation, and the deal sounds
almost too good to be true.

I called customer service twice, asking questions about this and
other systems. Each time I was treated with reasonably prompt and curteous
service, and they were able to answer my simple questions rather easily.
Consequently, from a customer service stand-point, they're impressing me.

However, since customer support isn't very effective without good
hardware, here are some of the specifics:

		1) 386sx running at 16MHz.
		2) Phoenix BIOS.
		3) 2MB of 80ns RAM, expandable to 4MB on the motherboard.
		4) 40MB HD, 28ms access time with a 1:1 Western Digital
		   controller.
		5) The power supply is rated at 200W.
		6) The motherboard they use is by Unitron in Fremont, CA.
		7) My choice of 3.5, 1.44MB or 5.25, 1.2MB floppies.
		8) Monochrome display & adapter.
		9) Two serial ports, 1 parallel port.

All this ( and more |-) for $1,299.

My questions is has anyone else had any experience with these guys
or their systems? Is Unitron a reputable motherboard?

Something about this sounds too good to be true. Any help would
be appreciated. As I'm now getting out of one dead-end system, I don't
want to walk into another( BTW, Anyone interested in purchasing an
Amiga 1000? |-)

					Thanx in advance,
