Fiddling with the 8088's unused opcodes and the April'86 issue of PC Tech Journal, I've worked out some of the extra VAX-like opcode that the NEC V20 can use. These are very useful for manipulating compressed bit-strings (BCD arithmetic I can do without, not to mention 8080 emulation in hardward :-). It is tedious to make large chunks of code around the place for these instructions into assembler, merely to take advantage of these instructions. Does anyone know of a better way to make use of these ? Creative suggestions, no matter how wild, gladly accepted.
