[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Wanted: Keyboards with built in trackballs

IRISH@cc.utah.edu (08/17/90)

Well my keyboard on my 80286 based clone is finally starting to bite the dust.
I would like to replace it with a keyboard with a built in trackball. I have
seen keyboards like this advertised, but would like to get peoples impressions
before I purchase one. Please send your impressions to me at
dirish@math.utah.edu and I will summorize and report back.

Thanks
Dudley Irish

I saw a keyboard from Fujitsu with a build-in Trackball.
Problem: The keyboard had the same size as normal keyboards... So the keys are
not on there right place...
And the Trackball was not very good.... any mouse is better..

CU, Markus

I have been using a KeyTronics KB5153 for some years and am quite happy
with it. While it does not have a built in trackball, it does have a
electonic touch pad surface measuring about 90mm x 90mm.

The pad can be configured to emulate: a Microsoft Bus mouse; an X-Y
tablet; a direct cursor positioning pad (simulates up, down, left & right
arrow presses); and several soft key matrices, ranging from 4x4 to 6x6
(this can give you up to 36 new Function keys!).

There are overlays for the soft keys which you can put on top of the pad,
after you have written in the designations. Software allows almost any
string you want to be assigned to each "key" in the matrix.

I have seen these offered in the big mail-order ads in PC Magazine as low
as US$140.00 ... a great deal, considering that they are trouble-free and
use a capacitive, rather than a metallic-contact type keyboard. And yes,
they work with both XT and AT systems.

(I am not in any way affiliated with KeyTronics Corp.)
