Any pointers to a DOS driver for the Wangtek PC 36 controller are greatly appreciated. Before you buy an Everex product, consider the following: I bought a used tape drive and (Everex) controller for use under both DOS and Unix. The drive came with Everex software for DOS, but the controller was busted. I replaced the controller with a Wangtek and all of my Unix software works fine. Unfortunately, the Everex controller includes a "security prom." As far as I (or anyone I've talked to, including an Everex phone support person) can tell the only thing this security prom does is tell the software that the card was manufactured by Everex. The Everex software works for a while and then fails with a bad ID error. The software doesn't fail because it uses some whizzy feature that only Everex provides; it fails *only* because of this obnoxious security prom. If you get an Everex controller and software, you're locked into Everex from then on. This pisses me off. I now have a Wangtek controller. I'm not likely to seriously consider buying *any* Everex products in the future. -- Erik erik@sgi.com
