[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] TP-425-60 MB & Video7 V-RAM

jackin@vehka.uta.fi (Markku M{enp{{) (09/07/90)

I have just aquired a 486 motherboard from Technology Power
Enterprise. It is fast, but I got some trouble when using
Video7 V-RAM. It won't go in color mode just monochrome vga.
The weird thing is, that games writing (I assume) directly
to video memory put out colors, but as soon as bios calls
are made (again, I assume) it is back to the gray world.

Motherboard has AMI 486-bios dated 9th 0f April 90.
V-RAM has bios version dated 88 & 89 (tried two different boards)

I have contacted the manufacturer of MB and Video7, and manufacturer
told me to get a new bios from Video7. This makes me believe that
the problem is known and corrected. I haven't got a answer from Video7
yet (well, it's been only one day), so I thought if someone of you
netters have had the same problem.

Thanks for any info,

Markku (jackin@vehka.uta.fi)

Yes, the older VRAM VGA bios comes up in monochrome *most of the
time*. Repeated softboots will eventually get color.

Video Seven is aware of the problem and, as always, their upgrades are
free-- just ask. All they ask you to do is return the old ROMs &
floppy disks, but they will rely on your honor to do so after
receiving the new ones.

I *think* the current BIOS version is 1.18.
