[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] TEAC drive question

f89ba@rigel.efd.lth.se (09/19/90)

I have heard that there is a slight difference between 3.5"
disk drives (perhaps between 5.25" too) used in
AT class computers and those used in PC/XT machines.
If my information is correct pin 34 on the signal connector
would be used for different purposes.

Is this true and could someone describe the difference?

The other day I purchased a TEAC 3.5" 1.44 MB (model FD-235HF)
unit which I use in my clone AT. Should I worry about having the wrong
version (that is XT, if there IS a difference) and how can I
tell which one I've got? (Label, part no. etc.)

Also, if anybody has any information on the jumper settings
(meaning, defaults etc.) for this drive OR TEAC's 5.25" 1.2 MB
unit I would appreciate if he/she would share this knowledge
with me.

Oh, one more question! What about terminating resistors on
these two drives? They are daisy-chained to my controller
and I have not removed any resistors since they are all
soldered. Should there be any removable term. resist.?
Is there a risk of overloading if I don't handle this
properly?

Please respond with MAIL!

Thanks in advance
