>From the mouth of our Cray site analyst -- they plan to deliver
the first machine in the middle of 1984. The native operating
system is planned to be UNIX V (USG 5.0).

Information on the Cray 2 was released about a year ago, although I don't think
any have been shipped yet. Briefly - as I recall it - a Cray 2 consists of
4 independent processors, each with a 3ns cycle time. The basic architecture
of each individual processor is very similar to a Cray 1 (note that the Cray 1
had one processor with a 12ns cycle time). Physically, the Cray 2 looks like
a SMALLER version of the Cray 1. Interesting statistics: Each board draws
a couple of HUNDRED watts - up to 500, as I recall. To cool the thing, the
boards are immersed in a cooling fluid - cooling the edges is not enough.
The fluid is - get this - artificial plasma, which turned out to be one of
the least reactive liquids they could find.

For more details, look through Electronics or related journals, going back
about a year.
