Information on the Cray 2 was released about a year ago, although I don't think any have been shipped yet. Briefly - as I recall it - a Cray 2 consists of 4 independent processors, each with a 3ns cycle time. The basic architecture of each individual processor is very similar to a Cray 1 (note that the Cray 1 had one processor with a 12ns cycle time). Physically, the Cray 2 looks like a SMALLER version of the Cray 1. Interesting statistics: Each board draws a couple of HUNDRED watts - up to 500, as I recall. To cool the thing, the boards are immersed in a cooling fluid - cooling the edges is not enough. The fluid is - get this - artificial plasma, which turned out to be one of the least reactive liquids they could find.
