[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] ESDI controller WD1007A-WA2 question

etxsral@tnetxa.ericsson.se (Lars Nilsson, ERICSSON TELECOM, SWEDEN) (09/22/90)

I have a Western Digital ESDI controller: WD1007A-WA2.

I have understand that this controller can't read the bad-sector
information that is stored on the harddisk.

Does this controller destroy the bad-sector info under low-level
formatting or is the info 'protected' ?

Is there an utility program that can read the bad-sector info and
use it when l-l formatting ?

Sure. When I unpacked the drive, I photocopied the top; it had the
printed bad block table. Later, I used the "enter the bad block table
by hand" command from the WD1007 BIOS.
