[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] ESDI bad track / WD1007A-WA2

etxsral@tnetxa.ericsson.se (Lars Nilsson, ERICSSON TELECOM, SWEDEN) (10/01/90)

I have a Western Digital ESDI controller: WD1007A-WA2.

Most ESDI drives has the bad-sector info recorded on two
sectors on the disk.
I have understand that this controller can't read the bad-sector
information that is stored on the harddisk.

Does this controller destroy the bad-sector info under low-level
formatting or is the info 'protected' ?

Is there an utility program that can read the bad-sector info and
use it when l-l formatting ?
