I'm forwarding this to the net for someone else. I will pass along any replies. Thanks. Paul DuBois dubois@primate.wisc.edu "Was all of this because I wore a big man's hat?" ------------------------ I recently purchased a 4x4 Matrix Switch (parallel) from Black Box Corp. This allows electronic switching between four different computers and four printers. Switching is done in the device by pressing a pushbutton on its surface. The switch worked fine with a Compaq 386/16 computer attached to an HP Laserjet II. However, I recently acquired a Northgate 486/25 computer and attached it to the matrix switch. When sending text from this new computer, there are now missing characters in the HP printout. I was told by Black Box that this was due to the fact that the clock speed of the matrix switch couldn't keep up with the speed of my new computer, Moreover, they have no plans to upgrade the device. I would like to keep the Matrix Switch and am looking for suggestions as to how I might make it compatible with my new computer (short of slowing down the computer's speed.) Specifically, what might be necessary is an in-line (hardware-handshaking) device between the computer and switch which would slow data transfer to the switch. The device should not be a print-spooler, since I am also using a PacificPage postscript cartridge which is not compatible with hardware print-spoolers. -- Paul DuBois dubois@primate.wisc.edu "Was all of this because I wore a big man's hat?"
