terence@ttidca.TTI.COM (Terence Davis) (10/10/90)
I've just purchased a new 386/25 machine with an accompanying big monitor and I want to protect it from power surges/brown outs, etc. I have read a lot of ads for UPS devices, surge supressors and the like, but I'm wondering what experiences people have had with these types of things. There was an article ~8 months ago for something by Zero Surge that sounded pretty good (I also saw the blurb about them in October's Byte), also there seem to be some inexpensive UPSs available. But I don't know which way to go. I'm more interested in saving the computer from harm than from saving my work (since I save very often) but if a good UPS is available for not much more than a very good surge supressor, I'd certainly be willing to go that route. I currently have a dot-matrix printer but would someday (within a year) like to get a personal laser printer, so whatever power system I get should be able to take the extra load. Please send responses to terence@ttidca.tti.com I'll post a summary if enough people respond. Thanks, Terry
