[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] HELP! Laptops & Scanners Advice Needed

cetatman@miavx1.acs.muohio.edu (10/15/90)

A friend of mine needs to purchase a laptop computer with a 386 or 386SX, a
hard disk drive, and an expansion slot. We have looked at reviews and gotten
advice from sales-people and have narrowed it down to either a Toshiba 3200
or an Epson Equity 386. Does anyone have any experience with either of these
machines. Can anyone recommend any other laptop? Also, does anyone know just
how difficult it is to change the battery on either of these machines?

We are also looking at scanners (hand-held) and have gotten mixed reviews.
The scanner called the Typist looks good (still have to see one in action)
along with a OCR package called OmniPage that is suppose to be accurate and
quick. Again, does anyone out there have any recommendations. The scanner
must be portable and not require AC power and use either a serial port or
a 2/3 or smaller card.

Thanks in advace for all the help.
