Being a native and having just returned from a week there, I think I can supply some information to GREG and anyone who will be visiting KC in the near future. Directions to Arthur Bryant's and another notable Barbecue place: To get to Arthur Bryants from downtown Kansas City Missouri, head East on Interstate 70 and take the Brooklyn Ave. exit. Note that it is only about 1-2 miles East of downtown. Bryant's is about 3 blocks South of the exit on the East side of the street. My personal favorite barbecue place is the Seventh Street Barbecue. To get there, take Interstate 35 into Kansas and exit at the Seventh street exit. Head north and cross the bridge over the river (roughly three blocks North of the I-35 exit). The barbecue is just across the Kansas River bridge on the left. Since you can't turn left here, you'll have to go around the block, but you should be able to figure it out. Places to go: To maximize your enjoyment of KC, there are two main areas to check out. The first is Wesport. This is in Kansas City Missouri and is located in the vicinity of Westport (mispelled it above) road and Broadway. That translates into about 43rd and Broadway. There are several good spots here with bands and other entertainment. Some to check out are: Blayneys (my hang-out), the Harris House, and the Lonestar. Other places in the area are OK too, but these feature music and dancing. The other area to check out is the Country Club Plaza. Look for this area in Kansas City Missouri around 47th and Main. There are many good places to eat and have a good time in here. To mention a few, "The Plaza III (dining and dancing)", Mario's (great Italian food), "Harry Starker's (dining downstairs, dancing upstairs)", I could go on and on. Just wander around in the Plaza, enjoy the Christmas lights, and follow the crowds. On other thing I'd like to mention. If you are a Beef afficionado, then a visit to the "Golden Ox" is a must. I don't know the address, but look for the Kemper Arena. It's right next door. Here, you can get the best steak you have ever had in your life. The Kansas City Strip is recommended. There are a lot of other places to hit in KC, but, for a short trip, I think that you will find these suggestions sufficient. One note: there are two Kansas City's, Missouri and Kansas. Because of the liquor laws in Kansas, there are no places really worth mentioning although they exist. It's a better bet to hit the Missouri side for entertainment and dining. Let us know how you like KC, GREG. Wishing I still lived there, Steve Purduski Bell Laboratories 1100 Warrenvill Rd. 1D-459 Naperville, Il.
