I have a generic PC/AT-clone, with most parts, but not all, carrying an FCC Class B approval. However, my computer causes heavy interference to TV reception over the entire VHF band. I have tried to connect the TV set and the computer to different outlets (on different branches) but without any improvement. My computer's case is rather sloppily put together, but I made an experiment by removing the case and found that it makes no difference if the top case is in place or not (a fact that really surprises me). Needless to say the computer is connected to a grounded outlet. Does anybody have any suggestions and/or experience of solving this kind of problem? Since the case doesn't seem to make a difference, I have come to suspect that the interfering signals may leak out via the mains cable. I know that there is a kind of mains filter intended to stop interfering signals from getting INTO the computer. Some of these devices are built into the mains "inlet" in the computer. The only brand I know of is Schaffner. Is it possible that such a filter could also prevent outgoing signals? I know that there is a booklet covering these problems published by the US Government Printing Office, but since I live in Sweden it's probably difficult for me to get a copy. ANY replies are welcome, but please E-MAIL your responses! Thank's in advance. Bengt Ask, Lund Institute of Technology, Lund, Sweden
