[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] identification of graphics card

ct@tcom.stc.co.uk (Mr. Motivated) (10/16/90)

Hello all,

I am looking for a way to discover what sort
of grahics card (ie. EGA, VGA etc) in installed
in a PC either through s/w (BIOS calls etc) or
at the DOS prompt.

Quick history: friends board goes off for repair,
and upon return some graphics applications no
longer work, any ideas ?

I do not have anon FTP access ;-(

Any help, pointers etc. much appreciated.

If the situation is to determine if your friend got the right card
back then a physical examination of the card is the simplest
method. There should be a square chip, usually the largest one
on the board, with words like VGA or EGA on it.

Otherwise you do not need an identification program. You need a diagnostic
program.
