Hi guys. I've hit an interesting problem recently that baffles me. I have among other machines at home a Compac Deskpro 286-12. Recently I laid hands on a 44 MB drive and some extra memory and thought I'd upgrade the Compac. No luck it seems. I install the drive, but the type (27) is unsupported by the Compac Bios so no dice. I then add 1Mb of memory using 256Kbit chips (9x4) and the Compac tells me that it sees no extended memory (base 640 is ok). Any patches, tricks or what I should know ? I mean I knew Compac was @#$!! (expletive deleted) slightly non-standard, but this is worse than true blue junk. (Think IBM or thwim with thomebody elthe.....Now Compac too) Please don't say "go to your Compac dealer for upgrades" I know the policy, the fat profits they make and the fact they know even less than me. Please reply by mail as our news is down and will be for some time. If there are other hapless souls in the group that are interested I will summarise. ace --------------------------------------------------------------------- - Andreas C.
