[net.travel] Whale watch: advice wanted

pvl (12/20/82)

I'm trying to decide whether to sign up for a whale watch in June, 1983.
Anybody out there ever gone on one? What is it like? Would it be
worth $22/person? The ship to be taken docks in Plymouth, Mass,
if that helps in knowing how the whaling is there. Please reply
by mail. Thanks, Pete LaMaster houxh!pvl (201)-949-0040

I went on a whale watch trip last August. I think the price was more like $15
from Barnstable Harbor on Cape Cod. The whales were fairly easily found, but
rather hard to see -- mostly large black rubbery spots in the water, though
if one is lucky, one might come realy close or jump up. The trip was about
2.5 hours -- an hour each way getting to the whaling area, and 30 minutes of
actual spotting. It wasn't a bad trip, but if you want a good look at a whale,
go to an aquarium. It is cold out in the bay -- dress warmly, even in summer.
Binoculars are helpful.
