Any bets on if or when HP will the LaserJet III engine in the IIP's form factor. I'm one of those people who would like the resolution enhancement technology of the III, could even afford the III, but frankly have no place to put anything larger than the IIP? Presumably, the IIIP won't appear until the number of IIPs in the pipeline was small. I thought the recent rebates were the begininng of the end, but I appear to have been mistaken... -- Craig Werner (future MD/PhD, 5.5 years down, 2.5 to go) werner@aecom.YU.EDU -- Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1935-14E Eastchester Rd., Bronx NY 10461, 212-931-2517) "Well, do you see the spaghetti?"

Can they do the same tricks with the print engine that the IIP uses that they do with the III? The Resolution Enhancement Technology (RET) that they use on the III depends on certain tricks they do in controlling the laser beam in the print engine to fine tune the dot size and placement. I don't know if the same tricks are applicable to the IIPs engine. There shouldn't be any technical reason why the other features of the III, such as scalable fonts and HPGL support couldn't be provided on the P engine and HP has shown no reluctance to obsolete their own products, when it comes to printers. I think that, combined with their agressive pricing strategy, explains why they have 40% of the laser printer market. -- Joel Upchurch/Upchurch Computer Consulting/718 Galsworthy/Orlando, FL 32809 joel@peora.ccur.com {uiucuxc,hoptoad,petsd,ucf-cs}!peora!joel (407) 859-0982
