[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Help: ATT 6300+ w/3.5" 1.44MB floppy

hutner@motcid.UUCP (Steven Hutner) (10/30/90)

I wish to install a 3.5" 1.44MB floppy on my AT&T 6300+.  Has anyone
out there tried this. Will the original controller support this
drive format? Will AT&T dos 3.2 support this format? Can the hard
drive be mounted somewhere other than in the front (so I can have
two removable media openings)?

I responded to your base note, but my machine told me it lost
my responce, here goes again.

I have what is known as a "Classic Vectra" made in 1986. As far
as I know, all PC Clones made here at HP will support the 3.5"
floppy drives. On my work Vectra, I use the 3.5" floppy all the
time once the PC is booted, but can not boot from the 3.5" at
this point in time (forever may be more likely). The way it
works is through the use of a drive parameter and device driver
in my CONFIG.SYS file.

	DRIVPARM = /D:1 /F:7 /T:80 /S:18 /H:2 /C
	DEVICE = C:\DOS\INDSKBIO.SYS /AT0

The '/AT0' is there for HP150 compatibility reasons since there
3.5' floppies are different in format from the IBMPC format, and
to my knowledge, is not needed in your application. The DRIVPARM
is needed to inform the driver INDSKBIO.SYS the drive geometry.
Changing these parms will change the way writing is done on the
floppy.

If you recieved the previos base note, this one may give better
info. Since I generally don't look at this base note, it is better
to email me if you are interested in trying my 3.5' driver.

Good luck
