After lots of frustration with a 1.44 in a psuedo-clone, I called Microsoft tech support. They said (as Terje noted) that while MS-DOS 3.30 supports 1.44 drives, the BIOS must also support the drive. They also said that drivparm was "a broken feature". I asked again. "Broken feature. It was a feature, but it doesn't work, so it's broken." :) This was early '88.
