[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Are extended ALT and CTRL supposed to autorepeat?

ergo@netcom.UUCP (Isaac Rabinovitch) (11/04/90)

Focke's keyboard squealer (great program, BTW) reveals that my new
extended keyboard does an autorepeat on the extra CTRL and ALT keys.
That is, when you hold the key down, you get a long stream of #9
interrupts. Come to think of it, the program doesn't detect such a
stream even when I hold down a key that is *supposed* to autorepeat.
What is this? Too clever design? Defective keyboard? Or just a
normal extended keyboard?

It might be relevant that it's a remaindered Vendex keyboard. I seem
to recall that Vendex was Zenith's department store brand name.

There is indeed something wrong with the keyboard: every once in a
while, the keyboard spontaneously sends scan code 0xFF, prompting a
short, high beep that I gather is a cry of protest from the BIOS. I'd
just like to know whether this other stuff is also unusual, so I can
wave it under the nose of a certain tech support department when I
call them monday.
