[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] 640X*400*X256 Win3 driver?

DSB100@psuvm.psu.edu (David Barr) (10/25/90)

I know there have been a lot of questions regarding a 640X480X256 color
drivers, but I was wondering if a 640x400 driver existed for the Paradise
chipset. I am running in 800x600x16 (8) color mode now, but I wanted to
investigate some of the new programs that now utililize 256 colors, like
WinFract, and WinGif.
     Thanks

Sorry, but as far as I know, and after a recent check on the Paradise BBS,
they are not releasing a 640x400x256 color driver for Win/3. It doesn't
look as it they are going to.

The only sort-of-good news is that I came across a note about converting
an HP VGA card (which I'm gambling that you're using) from 256k to 512k.

It basically entails getting some chips and doing some very precise soldering
and de-soldering.

Mail me if you want the details.

(P.S. - Updating the card to 512k will allow the win/3 paradise drivers to
work in 640x480x256.)
