I know this has been discussed at length here but I have never seen an answer to the question whether a printer port can be bi-directional. I have several I/O boards. The older ones have a 74LS374 latch that drives the printer port's data lines. The output enable on the '374 is tied to ground so that no external device can drive the bus. The newer ones have a 40 pin custom chip that is attached to the port so I can't tell if it can be disabled or not. I assume that many older boards can not be made bi-directional. If that is so, then how do these PC-to-PC file transfer programs transfer data from one printer port to another? Do they only use the control lines that are inputs on the printer port? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. Greg -------------------------------------------------------------------- J.
