[net.travel] honeymoon summary

Thanks to all those who responded to my request for
suggestions on where to go for a honeymoon.
More than half the responders suggested that I try
the beaches of Bermuda, the Bahamas, or other island
resorts in that part of the world. (Sounds nice, but
both of us are fair skinned and don't take well to lots
of sun). Canada also came highly recommended. Hawaii
also was found on the list and I would be going there
if not for the recent hurricane. I agree with those
of you who spoke the praises of Kauai, I spent a week
there two years ago and absolutely loved it.
The one common thread that runs through all the replies
was that the honeymooners had a great time wherever
they went.

For those of you who are interested, we have decided
to go to San Francisco for our honeymoon. I think it
best combines our needs for a place that has lots to
do but also affords the opportunity to not do much.
I spent a year at Stanford so I am somewhat familiar with
the area but my fiance has never been. I know just enough
about the area to guide our activities, but have not
seen or done so much there that I will get bored
serving as a tour guide.
We plan to stay at one of the small, "European-style"
hotels in the city like the Bedford or the Cartwright
where double room rates are about $60 - 70.
These are reputed to be excellent hotels even though
their rates are substantially below those of the big
name hotels in town.
