[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Hardware info for IBM-PC Tape Drives

wkt@rodos2.cs.adfa.oz.au (Warren Toomey) (11/09/90)

Would anybody have any technical specifications etc. on some tape drives
for the IBM-PC, specifically the Everex 40Meg, Archive XL 5540 40Meg,
and Archive XL 3800 80Meg tape drives. These drives use the standard
floppy disk controller card for I/O.

I'm running the Minix operating system, and I'd like to know if these
cards `emulate' floppy drives, i.e. do they pretend to have heads, tracks
and sectors. If so, I should be able to modify my floppy device driver
to accomodate a tape drive.

For those PC Minixers out there, has anybody done the modifications to
get one of these to work already?

Thanks in advance!
