I'm having trouble with a SoundBlaster sound card which I recently purchased. When I run the test program provided with the card, the voice part works flawlessly, but when the FM music test is run, either there is no sound at all (and the machine generally locks up), or, in a rare occurrence, there is sound, but it is distorted and quickly deteriorates into noise. When I load the FM driver, it frequently reports "Error 0002" - FM music not available on this card. There is no mention of this error in the reference manual that comes with the card. I'm using the following system: 12/16 Mhz 386SX with a Chips and Technologies NEAT-P9 chipset and AMI bios 16-bit Paradise VGA card & monitor 40meg IDE Western Digital hard drive 1.2 and 1.44 floppies I/O card with 2 serial ports (COM1 and COM2), parallel port (LPT1) and game port 1 meg of memory (on board) The SoundBlaster uses IRQ 7 and I/O address 220H. These can be adjusted to avoid conflicts, if necessary. Here's everything I've tried: - Changed the interrupt from IRQ 7 to IRQ 5, IRQ 3, and IRQ 2 - Changed the I/O address from 220H to 210H, 230H, 240H, 250H, and 260H - Pulled the I/O card - Switched to 12 Mhz (via the "Turbo" button) Changed the bus clock, the bus memory command delay, and the bus wait states - Moved the card to every available slot, and some unavailable ones as well - Downloaded and ran a patch ("Prog.exe") to correct problems with higher-speed machines - Eliminated all drivers from memory (mouse, EMS, Smartdrive) I've also had the exact same problem with a fully-functioning Adlib card. This card ran perfectly in a different 386SX machine. I must admit, I'm quite at a loss at this point. I have talked to Technical Support and to the maker of my computer, neither of which have had any useful suggestions thus far. Does anybody have any idea what is causing the problem, and how I might correct it? -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Amy Raby | "There is no childhood's end..." | | Austin, Texas | -Derek Dick | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
