Hi, We have recently acquired a Western Digital EtherCard-Plus ethernet adapter, unfortunately it came with no documentation (i.e. it was cheap :-). Has anyone else ever seen one of these before, and know anything about configuring it? As it is set up now, it seems to be conflicting with my serial board (Everex Magic-I/O). I would like to run this with DECnet/DOS (LanWorks, or whatever it's called now...); is this possible? (I know it's not "officially" supported.) The PC is a 386SX with AT bus. Any advice would be much appreciated. Stu Hiser Hiser@Supa2.Supa.cmu.edu System Manager sh1u@andrew.cmu.edu Carnegie Mellon STARGAZER@DRYCAS.BITNET

Your best bet will be to contact Western Digital directly. They have a toll-free 800 number (ask directory assistance 800-555-1212) for their number. If I remember correctly, their phone system is an automated assistance line; in other words, voice mail. Western Digital support is very good. If you require further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me. __________ ___ / \ / / /_/ / /\/ _/ / / / __/. /__ / / / / / / / / "Happy Computing ..." / / Internet: Johnny.J.Chin@andrew.cmu.edu / ------- / 4730 Centre Ave. #412 BITnet: jc58@andrew \__________/ Pittsburgh, PA 15213 UUCP: ...!uunet!andrew.cmu.edu!jc58 Computer Dr. Carnegie Mellon University "If you don't like having backups ... try driving without your spare tire." ______________________________________________________________________________ Disclaimer: The views expressed herein are STRICTLY my own, and not CMU's.

Oh ... one further thing. WD EtherCard+ comes with a default configuration using IRQ=3; thus conflicting with COM2. On a 386SX, your only other possible IRQ is 2. CAUTION: If you are using a EGA/VGA card, IRQ2 may conflict with that. I usually use IRQ3 and disable COM2; or IRQ5 and disable LPT2. IRQ4 is used by COM1 and IRQ7 is used by LPT1. IRQ6 is used by the floppy controller (I believe), which maybe part of the hard drive controller. Before calling Western Digital, you may wish to think about which port you are willing to sacrifice. If I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to send me mail. __________ ___ / \ / / /_/ / /\/ _/ / / / __/. /__ / / / / / / / / "Happy Computing ..." / / Internet: Johnny.J.Chin@andrew.cmu.edu / ------- / 4730 Centre Ave. #412 BITnet: jc58@andrew \__________/ Pittsburgh, PA 15213 UUCP: ...!uunet!andrew.cmu.edu!jc58 Computer Dr. Carnegie Mellon University "If you don't like having backups ... try driving without your spare tire." ______________________________________________________________________________ Disclaimer: The views expressed herein are STRICTLY my own, and not CMU's.

Hi, My WD EtherCard+ is now properly configured (it gets along with COM2:) and happily running PCSA (3.0, I think). Thanks to all who replied! --Stu
