[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Seagate SCSI adapter help

tlhilde@en.ecn.purdue.edu (Troy Hildebrand) (11/15/90)

I have a 386 with a Seagate ST02 scsi host adapter. I have recently
come upon a second hard drive, a 60 meg tape drive, and a scanner
which I would like to hook up to my computer. Is there any way I
can do this with the ST02?

Somebody told me that there is such a beast by Seagate which has the
external connector built in to it (ST02-50). What I want to know is,
is there any internal difference between the ST02 and ST02-50? Can I
simply build a cable which replaces the normal 50-wire ribbon from the
card to the drive with one that has an external type connector in the
middle of it?

I'd really like to get these other devices hooked up to my computer soon,
with minimal cost. I believe I have all the hardware needed; I just need
somebody to confirm that (hopefully with specific details?).

If it is impossible with the Seagate host adapter I have, which of the
Adaptec 1542b and WD FAAST host adapters would be best? Price, performance,
availablity of drivers, etc are factors here.

Thanks bunches.

Troy
