I just happened to think... I use a CM 8505 Magnavox monitor in what amounts to CGA mode on an original (64k) IBM EGA card. It's a hangover from my Commodore days, and also worked on my old CGA card. It's manufactured by North American Phillips. Now, this monitor handles _both_ TTL and analog RGB. In fact, I've seen the same beastie plugged into an Amiga in a store display. However, I've never played with the analog side. Is there a video card that will drive it in analog mode and give me better performance than the psuedo-CGA I'm getting now? Perhaps (in a wild spurt of imagination) something like a VGA or MCGA card? On a kind of related note, has anyone else used this monitor (under the Magnavox or Commodore label) and had the picture go intermittent after a couple years? I've had to fix something like 7 of these (including my own), and they all had the exact same problem. Thermal stress breaks the solder connections to the HV transformer primary on the underside of the PC board. It's a simple fix on the Magnavox version... the Commodore-labelled units are a bit trickier, as they have a full RF shield pan underneath. -- Roy M.
