We're currently in the market for an IEEE-488 interface for data acquisition. In researching the interface, we've come across a puzzler. We've found a few 488 boards, going for $450 or so apiece. However, we've also heard that it would be simpler (not to mention cheaper!) to simply buy an adaptor to fit on our serial port to convert it to an IEEE-488. Has anyone used this method? Does it work? Are IEEE-488 interfaces generally configured as COM ports? If this is not a good solution, does anyone know of any cheaper boards? I get the feeling they MUST be out there.
