[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Recycling HP PaintJet color cartridges?

granroth@iowasp.physics.uiowa.edu (Larry Granroth) (11/28/90)

There have been notes posted recently about refilling HP DeskJet cartridges
using a syringe to inject ink into the sponge inside the cartridge.
Has anyone out there tried a similar procedure with HP PaintJet cartridges?
We produce many mostly-blue 8-color FS dithered spectrograms here and
usually end up throwing away a 3-color cartridge after using up the cyan,
with most of the magenta and yellow remaining. I would like in particular
to find a source of cyan ink that matches HP's as closely as possible.

Also, does anyone know of quality 3rd party alternatives for these
cartridges for less than about $18 each? Does anyone buy used cartridges
or give trade-in allowances?

Thanks.
