I've got an old Compaq Deskpro that I really want to upgrade. It currently has an 8086 running at 7Mhz. Unfortunately, this is running too slow for me these days. I know that a Sota 286 card will help out but I haven't seen one for less than $275. I don't know of any motherboards that would fit in the Compaq. (It has a unusual size motherboard) I thought about replacing the 8086 with a 8088 running at 10Mhz. Does anyone know if this will work? I don't know if all the other chips will be able to keep up at this new speed. If anyone has any ideas on this or other suggestions let me know, I want to try and get my computer running up to a decent speed.
