It seems like I've got a BIOS incompatibility problem with a hard disk controller that I recently added to a Amstrad PC1512. The thing runs for a while, and then starts giving seek errors which go away after a reboot. Perhaps changing the BIOS on the HD Controller card would help, and save me a whole lot of hassle; I know the Amstrad isn't exactly renowned for compatibility, and perhaps the controller card bios & system bios conflict in some way that a different controller card bios might not. So if anyone has an IBM compatible PC (as in with an 8086, NOT an AT) and wouldn't mind running a short C program to dump their HD BIOS into a file which they could uuencode and mail to me, please drop me some Email and I can send you the program. I can uuencode & send the .exe, if you don't have a C compiler, or I can send the source if you're virus conscious. Also, it would be handy if you could tell me the following (but don't worry if you can't) so I don't waste your time: 1) Does you HD Controller BIOS sit at C800:0000? 2) Is your HD setup program on disk, or in the BIOS ROM? (if it's on disk, I'd probably need that too) 3) Is the HD bios from an Amstrad PC? 4) Is the HD bios from a controller with a UMI chipset? Part Numbers? 5) What brand and model controller? Does it do MFM? 6) Are you having fun answering these questions? I can only post to this group; I can't read it (that's a newey eh?), so if you post a reply, please please mail me a copy. thanks, Greyham. -- /* Greyham Stoney: Australia: (02) 428 6476 * greyham@hades.ausonics.oz.au - Ausonics Pty Ltd, Lane Cove, Sydney, Oz. * Neurone Server: Brain Cell not Responding. */
