Thanks to almost everyone who replied as to my original query. There was a good deal of helpful information given. Since I seem to not be the only one plagued by this problem, I thought I'd relate the success story to those interested. Quick recap: I had my supply replaced 3 years ago and was charged for it (computer 2 years old at the time). An article was posted here telling of a silent recall. I called Compaq and complained. They said Deskpros with serial numbers from 4518-4611 and power supplies with codes from 4505-4603 and 6505-6603 should have been covered under the now expired silent recall. They gave me a free one this time anyway. Anyone else with this problem should give them a call if interested.
