[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Can I use one monitor for MacII

ap@cbnews.att.com (Alexis Porras) (12/20/90)

I need some advice on choice of a high-res 13"/14" RGB monitor
for the Mac IIci I am planning to purchase. I plan on getting
the Apple 8.24 color card, so the logical choice of monitor is
the Apple RGB monitor - but I also have a 386SX PC with a
superVGA card which I would like to use at 1024x768 with the
same monitor. So far, I've found two candidates:

	NEC 3D	- about $570 mail-order - interlaced 1024x768,
supports Mac II with addition of a cable adaptor
provided free of charge by NEC (on request)

	SONY 1304 - about $640 mail order, non-interlaced at
1024x768, requires separate cable for the Mac II
		(about $30 through SONY).

Questions:

(1) any Mac/IBM users out there have good/bad experiences with
either of these two monitors? Mac User (I think) said that the
SONY was the best color monitor in its price range.

(2) will these monitors support the 24 bit mode of the 8.24 card?
(16 million colors, etc)

(3) is the apple monitor "better" than either of these two
monitors? I believe it has the same picture tube as the SONY...

(4) Is the price diff. of the NEC and SONY worth it (to get
non-interlaced instead of interlaced?)

Please help! E-mail to: ap@wnb3b2.att.com
