[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] VGA query; Oak

lrj@ishtar.cs.cornell.edu (Lew Jansen) (12/22/90)

Howdy all... I've got a small request before the holidays,
as I'm considering a purchase but want to check out the wisdom
of the net before laying out the $$$.

I would like to obtain any and all information people might
have regarding the Samtron 431v2 VGA monitor and the 8-bit Oak
VGA card as applied to a 10 MHz XT compat. Information on
what I can expect this setup to do and not to do would be
greatly appreciated, as I don't know much about PC's and
	displays.

Are these reasonable items? Are they a waste of money?
What would be a fair price (new)?

I'm told that the Oak card (with 256k) will do 640x480 with
256 colors. Personally, this seems like quite a trick, cuz the
display would have 307200 pixels coming from 256k RAM. Perhaps
	they meant 640x380?

Any comments you might have would be appreciated. Tnx.
