I am trying to help my father upgrade from an ibm pc to a clone 386 system. He would like to be able to run Harvard Graphics and the latest Word Perfect, (and maybe later Windows) so the system I had in mind was 386 motherboard with 1 mb RAM (expandable to 4 mb) 40 mb hard disk monochrome monitor some sort of graphics card high + low density 5.5" floppy drives I have 4 questions: 1) Does anyone know of a reputable ibm-clone dealer/manufacturer in the Wash, DC area? He wants to avoid repair-by-mail hassles. 2) Is anything salvagable from the ibm pc, eg the monitor? 3) What would the system cost roughly? I am guessing about $2000. 4) Who makes the most reliable hard drives nowadays? Thanks in advance for any help. I've been out of touch with the pc world for several years now. Peter W.
