On the cover of the December '90 Damark International, Inc. catalog, there is a KLH '386 system for sale. Specs are: - 25 MHz '386 w/ 64K cache, expandable to 128K - 1M RAM, expandable to 8M on the motherboard - one 1.2M floppy drive and one 1.44M floppy drive - one 80M, 28mS hard drive - one 8-bit slot, six 16-bit slots, one 32-bit slot - six 1/2-height drive bays (five exposed front) - two serial ports, one parallel port - 101-key AT keyboard - 16-bit VGA card: 800x600, 256K - color VGA analog monitor: 14", .31mm, 640x480 - MS-DOS 4.01 included - instructional video tape for setup included - factory new, one year warranty - price: $1999.99 + $69 S&H (claimed mfr sugg retail $5194.00) Does anyone have one of these beasts? I would be interested in the maker of the motherboard, the brand of BIOS, the type of memory chips used, etc. It sounds like a decent deal, especially since it's an assembled system from one manufacturer. Can I do better, say, through a Computer Shopper ad? I'm interested in a full-sized '386 box with lots of drive bays. This system appealed to me because it has three free bays left. I can add another 80M disk, a tape unit, and a CD-ROM drive (I think -- there was no info given on the power supply). I would welcome any knowledgeable comment on this particular system, or on KLH computers in general (I know of KLH as one of the "golden age" hi-fi stereo companys. Initials stand for Henry Kloss, Jim Lansing, and ??? Harmon, I believe). BTW, Damark is a catalog seller of volume purchases, factory closeouts, distributor overstocks, and discontinued merchandise. I once ordered a F.R.E.D.-II MTS stereo TV decoder from them. I had no problems with the order or with Damark. Thanks in advance, folks. -- Keith -- | W.
