[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Value 386

wnn@ornl.gov (Wolfgang N. Naegeli) (01/11/91)

We need help with memory configuration on a Value 386.

I called their number, but I only got a private residence and an annoyed
lady, who said she
was getting lots of calls for them.

Does anyone have their new number? Has the company gone out of business?

Our machine has 36 256k RAM chips on the memory board, but it recognizes
only 640k.

How can we get the extra 384k to be recognized as extended memory? When
we specify this in the setup screen, we get an error on booting.

We also tried to fill the other 36 sockets, but we can't get this extra
Meg to be recognized either.

We have no documentation for the machine. The previous user apparently
discarded it because it "sure didn't look like a manual that I would need
to keep," claiming that it was only a few mimeographed pages.

There are two unused pin connectors on the memory board. Are those for a
piggyback memory board? Where can we get one?

What other options do we have to get more RAM into the machine? The
memory board does
not look standard.

I do not normally read this newsgroup. Please respond directly by e-mail.
If anyone
is interested in seeing the responses we get, please drop me a note and I
will forward you
everything I'll get.

Please help me help us all save some taxpayer's dollars by getting this
thing to work the
way it is supposed to.

Thank you.
