When i was in Paris, the best ice cream that i found was right in the center of town. Notre Dame stands on the Ile-de-Cite. There is another small island just behind Ile-de-Cite and two ice cream shops exist on the island. Each shop had it's own interesting flavors, so i recommend trying both places. Sorry i don't remember the names of the places. Jeff Langer (eagle!jeff); BTL-MH

As I recall, both shops are on L'Ile St. Louis, near Notre Dame. One store, Berthillon I think it's called, makes the ice cream for both shops; legend has it that they use something like a ton of fresh fruit every week in the process. The other shop, Le Flore en L'Ile, is less well known, but sells "glaces Berthillon" as well. This is a good thing, since Berthillon is usually mobbed. Why should you care? Because this is the best ice cream in the most incredible city in the world... I was a free man in Paris, Herb Jellinek, burdvax!hdj

There's one street down the middle of the island, so you walk along this street until you see a line of people, and get at the end of the line. John Levine, ima!johnl
