[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Expanded Memory Card in XT...please help

lance@helios.ucsc.edu (Lance Bresee) (01/12/91)

I recently purchased an Everex Expanded Memory Card
for my XT. I could not get the thing to work in
my machine....I tried all possible configurations
of the switch settings, which set the ammouunt
of memory on the main board and the addresses of
the io ports. My machine is a magitronic 10MHZ
XT clone running Phoenix Bios V2.27 with com1 and
com2 installed, a single printer port at standard
address for LPT1, and a VGA card. I also have a
floppy controller with on-board bios for high density drives.
The expanded memory card exibited two symptoms,
depending on switch setting...
one was an IO CARD PARITY ERROR NMI in the first
segment..ie the MSB of the offset was 0..otherwise,
I would get no NMI but the software would not find
any expanded memory.

If anyone can suggest a possible conflict existing in
my setup, I would be EXTREMELY grateful.

Also, I am considering putting the expanded memory
into my sister's PS/2 model 25, which she uses for
accounting work and could use expanded memory for
Quatro. Does anyone know if there would be any
incompatibility in putting the card into the 25?
I believe that the expansion slots are identical
as the XT slots, but I do not know if IBM has some
bios problems which would cause a problem.

thanx muchly to all
