Does anyone have a BocaRam/AT or BocaRam/AT Plus memory card?
I have some specific questions about them.
I am especially interested in the AT Plus card.
1) I understand that both boards can be configured as either extended or
expanded memory. The AT card uses dip switches. The AT Plus card is
configurable through software. Does this software take up any memory
or do you just run it and select the options that you want?
2) When used as expanded memory, is it LIM EMS 3.2 in hardware with EMS 4.0
simulated with software or is EMS 4.0 in hardware?
3) When used as expanded memory is a device driver required? When used
as extended memory is a device drvier required?
4) How much memory do the drivers take up? One of the programs that I want
to run is Wing Commander. It takes 583,000 bytes to run. When I take
everything out of my system, I have 592,000 bytes, so any drivers that
I have to install must take less that 9k of ram.
5) I have a 12Mhz 286 with 640k of conventional ram and 384k of extended ram.
If I configure the card to be extended memory, can the card map its
memory at 1384k so that my 384k on the mother board is still usable or
am I going to have to disable the memory on the mother board. If the
card is configured as expanded memory, is there any conflict with the
extended memory already on my system?
6) Can part of the memory on the board be configured as extended and part as
expanded or just one type of memory at a time?
7) Is the board fully EMS 4.0 compatible? I read in PC Magazine that EMS
4.0 boards are supposed to let programs swap the entire 1MB address range
into EMS memory, but not all memory boards compatible with EMS 4.0 can do
this. pp 205-206 January 29,1991 volume 10 number 2
Any help you can give me in answering any of these questions would be
appreciated.
