The entire area around Lake Superior is a fantastic place to spend a vacation. Because the region is so sparsely populated, though, you really tend to notice the influx of tourists in the summer. Early fall (color season) is a much quieter time. (Winter is even more so, if you like to snowmobile or ski). As a former resident, I might as well put in a few plugs for the Keweenaw peninsula area of Upper Michigan. Besides the "usual" scenery (very rugged, lots of trees and rocks and rivers), this area has a lot of historical interest as well, being the site of the first real mining boom (copper) in the country back in the 1840's. There are also some pretty good fishing holes and berry patches around to keep your stomach happy while exploring the back country. Froggy
