[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Occasional Parity Errors

gb7@prism.gatech.EDU (Joe Bradley) (01/16/91)

I just built a system for client and I'm getting occasional parity errors.
Typically about one every two or three days. They usually occur when the
keyboard hasn't been touched for a while. Anyone have any ideas as to
what could possibly be the source of such a problem? The memory test at
startup runs fine.

One more problem the system is having which could be related is that
sometimes when writing several files to a floppy, the system locks up
with the drive light illuminated.

The hardware is a Vantage 386/25 Motherboard, an Orchid Pro II SVGA card with
1 Mbyte RAM, and a noname IDE controller. Could an address conflict between
the IDE controller and the SVGA card cause these problems? Unfortunately
I received zero docs on the IDE card so I may have to scap it and obtain
another. Anyone using a name brand IDE card that comes with good
documentation?
