[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] 386-33 Micronics ASIC MB and QEMM-386 5.11

jdb@reef.cis.ufl.edu (Brian K. W. Hook) (01/19/91)

I just purcahsed an 80386-33mhz motherboard from Micronics. This is the
ASIC MB that uses the Micronics chipset and has integrated parallel, serial,
and IDE ports. The IDE is currently disabled since I am using an Adaptec
2372B RLL 16-bit HD controller. The board has a 32 K direct map cache
which is enabled right now. It has 1MB simms for a total of 8MB.

The problem I am encountering is running QEMM 5.11. Every now and then
and totally unpredictably, when the computer hits the following line
in my config.sys:

device = c:\utils\qemm\qemm.sys RAM NOEMS

It will REBOOT. Just like that. Just reboot and that is it. That is
the first line in my config.sys. I have tried to reach Quarterdeck
tech support but they put me on hold for 15 minutes before I hung up.
That is very annoying. I have tried every option listed in the manual
to no avail. The micronics documentation states that segment 0E0000 is
reserved for bios shadowing and to set my frame buffer at 0D0000. I
tried this and it didn't help one bit. *sigh*

If anyone has encountered this problem, please let me know. Other
pertinent data:

Microscience HH1050 HD (HD0)
Seagate ST277R-1 HD (HD1)
Mitsumi 1.2MB
Mitsumi 1.44MB
Adaptec 2372B FD/HD RLL 16-bit controller
Paradise 16/+ 16-bit VGA with 256K
Microsoft bus mouse

Please note that if it does get past that first line that it works just
fine. I have tried disabling the 32k cache, enabling and disabling
the ROM BIOS shadowing, and am now out of ideas. The computer works,
but having it reboot itself two or three times before it finally works
is annoying.

Thanks in advance,

Brian
