Does anyone out there know if the standard AT&T 6300 machine came with any sort of graphical capability, CGA, EGA, Hercules, etc.? Also, is there any reason a VGA card and monitor could not be used with the machine? Thanks in advance, Herb Lison

The AT&T 6300 can use EGA if you get the ROMs upgraded. I think its Rev 4.31, or something like that. Then you might also need a pal chip from a third party to make it work with some cards. Best thing is to call AT&T and they will help you. I know this works because I did it, but let me warn you that it will cost you about $100 to get these chips.

I understand there are sources which sell this for $25. Rather than "a pal chip from a third party", you'll need a "buss correction kit" that flips the order of bytes written when 16 bit quantities are written to memory to the same order used by IBM. Byte order was arbitrary at the time the 6300 was designed but EGA and VGA which were introduced later expect a particular order. The 6300+ does not require the correction kit. The kit costs about $45-50. I'm not sure you would get help from AT&T since this modification is not supported but you'll get lots of help from users on the AT&T BBS. Roger Levy ...!att!groucho!rl
