Hello world, After trying to change the partions of my harddisk (and maybe do something which broke the harddisk) my computer doesn't recornize the harddisk anymore. When I type fdisk the computer responds with "no fixed drives present". Putting the drive in config.sys gives "loading external driver" or something like that, but when I type C: it responds with a "Reading error drive c: Abort, Retry, Ignore?". Is this a software problem or hardware and if it's the hardware: is it the controllercard or could it be the drive itself? Please E-mail me, I will summarize to the newsgroup. Thanks for your help, Jack

My first impression would be to ask you if you fiddled with the drive cables? This is always a source of trouble, BAD cables can be a very hard problem to track down. Make sure they are on tight. Secondly, are you able to do a low-level format of the drive? If so you may have a problem reading the first section of the drive. Fdisk may not work properly. Try using disk-manager to set up a partition, then go in to fdisk and see if you can read the disk. Steve Misrack steve@ucsd.edu
