[comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware] Question about upgrade path

balon@hpcupt1.cup.hp.com (Tom Balon) (01/24/91)

I'm looking for an card that can turn my old tired IBM PC
into a 386. I know Intel makes something called the Inboard
386 that will do the trick but the card with 2MB memory expander
costs about $1000 !!! I could buy a new machine for that !

So, does anybody know where I can pick one of these up used ?

Are there any other manufactures who make these things ?

What compatibility issues should I be aware of ? (ie. Will all
my old PC applications still work ? )

Can cards like the Intel Inboard that have 1MB of onboard memory
still access the 640K of memory on the mother board ?

						Thanks in advance,
